​​​​ The Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policies Affairs is in charge of the main operations and projects within the Economic policies sector which he administers, and undertakes in particular the following:

The Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Policies Affairs is in charge of the main operations and projects within the Economic policies sector which he administers, and undertakes in particular the following:

1. Contribute to designing the Ministry's policies and setting strategic plans and administers their implementation within the Economic policies sector.

2. Set work plans and main programs of the Economic policies sector, direct and approve their implementation.

3. Coordinate between organizational units under his control and direct their performance and submit their achievements to the Undersecretary.

4. Follow and develop performance of the units under his direction.

5. Any other competencies ordered by the Undersecretary.

The Assistant Undersecretary may delegate some of his powers to the directors of the departments under his control or any employee he may designates.

Sector departments :
1.Planning and Decision Support Department:

The Competition Department discharge the following tasks:

1. Prepare researches and studies about various economic, trade and industrial affairs and developments in the country which have an impact on the national economy in joint collaboration with the concerned organizations and institutions.

2. Follow up and study economic developments and all plans, policies and trends resulting thereof and have direct relation with the country's economic policies.

3. Collect and analyze sector data which covers various areas, and issue periodical reports.

4. Oversee the ministry's library and provide it with references associated with the ministry's activities.

5. Exchange technical opinions and present advise in economic issues to various governmental institutions.

6. Coordinate between planning and economic bodies for proposing economic policies.

7. Formulate investment and trade promotion policies for national products inside the country in coordination with the concerned departments in the ministry.

8. Prepare studies necessary for the working of negotiating teams and the country's stances with respect to ongoing economic negotiations whether in the framework of economic agreements or economic cooperation, in coordination and consultation with the concerned bodies in both private and public sectors.

9. Any other competencies related to the department's work nature, and ordered by the Executive Director.

2.Competioin Department:

The Competition Department discharge the following tasks:

1. Develop competition environment within the country's markets and propose law and regulations projects related to organizing competition.

2. Combat monopolistic practices and work to eliminate all barriers opposing competition.

3. Examine information to detect malpractices obstructing competition in joint collaboration with the concerned authorities to take necessary actions thereto.

4. Set concrete plans and mechanisms to receive complaints and problems of the parties involved in competition and set laws, systems and regulations to redress such complaints and take all necessary actions entrusted to resolve them.

5. Propose policies, laws and mechanism to ensure protection and encouragement of competition, promotion of competition culture and abidance by all technical and legislative means necessary thereof.

6. Any other competencies related to the Department's work nature ordered by the Executive Director.

3. Cooperation and Economic Agreement Department :

The Cooperation and Economic Agreement Department carry out the following tasks:

1. Prepare work plans necessary for follow up meetings of economic and industrial commissions and organizations (Arab, regional and international) in addition to technical committees originating therein, and study their work agenda, present remarks and opinions thereto, and prepare necessary reports in joint cooperation with other competent authorities.

2. Follow up implementation of decisions and recommendations issued by economic and industrial commissions and organizations in joint coordination and cooperation with the competent authorities and the private sector's establishments in the country.

3. Support the Ministry of Foreign Trade in formulation of commercial perspectives in joint economic agreements.

4. Administer affairs related to implementation of the country's obligations within the framework of economic agreements and follow up developments thereof.

5. Prepare necessary studies about the effect of economic agreements on the national economy and state opinion on issues related to implementation of such agreements in coordination with Economic Legislations Department.

6. Represent the country in negotiations, meetings and symposiums related to economic agreements in cooperation and coordination with the competent authorities in the country.

7. Any other competencies related to the Department's work nature ordered by the Executive Director.

4. Economic Legislations Department:

The Economic Legislations Department performs the following tasks:

1. Propose economic, commercial and industrial legislations in practice in the country and follow up its issuance in coordination with the concerned bodies in this regard.

2. Collect, tabulate and administer translation of economic, commercial and industrial legislations in practice in the country and also international economic agreements where the country is party thereof.

3. State opinion and advise with regard to implementation of provisions of economic, commercial and industrial laws and systems which are influenced by ambiguity in application or in case of diversity in opinion about their implementation and follow up such matters therein with the legislating bodies and other concerned authorities.

4. Provide whenever necessary expertise advice in cases of trademarks and intellectual property as per the request of the competent court.

5. Prepare assessment studies of economic, commercial and industrial legislations in practice, and study the extent of conformity of such legislations with each other on one side, and the country's external obligations on the other side.

6. Represent the ministry in all concerned bodies with regard to economic, commercial and industrial legislative issues.

7. Prepare proposals about agreements and decisions concerning economic laws in the framework of the department's competency and state opinion thereto in coordination with the concerned bodies.

8. Set and determine investments legal framework based on the legislations issued in this regard.

5. Investment Department :

The Investment Department performs the following tasks:

1. Provide and publish comprehensive investment data and information for all emirates in the country.

2. Initiate attractive investment environment and coordinate efforts of local and federal competent authorities in this regard.

3. Coordinate with the competent authority and other related bodies to monitor, follow and evaluate foreign investments performance in the country and make ready to resolve all difficulties which may obstruct implementation of investment projects.

4. Settle amicably the disputes which may arise between investors and the competent authority with regard to registration, licensing and working of the investment project.

5.

6. Provide consultation and technical support to the local competent authority to enable it to implement the provisions of this law and work to unify and simplify registration and licensing procedures of foreign investments projects.

7. Provide complete support to investors, receive and study foreign investors' applications based on preliminary approval of the local concerned authority in order for the foreign investment project to obtain the concessions and benefits prescribed in accordance with the provisions of the law.

8. Submit periodical reports about the country's investment environment and its associated activity and the state of positive and negative conditions and indicating proposals set to resolve negative effects.

9. Any other competencies related to the department's work nature ordered by the Executive Director. ​​
